Experience the inclusivity and richness of Indian Classical music in Rotterdam

The story of evolution is musically told by Prewien Pandohi-Mishre and his ensemble. Growth, development, sensory fulfilment, decay, contemplation and liberation are the themes that are interpreted in a musical way. Ancient Indian melodies are enriched by modern instruments to create the different moods of the theme.

Central to the act are Indian classical music and the Surinamese Hindustani music, the heritage of Surinam-born Prewien. Flowing like water connecting the different styles together. Traditional instruments are combined with western instruments like acoustic guitar and double bass and the arrangements are enriched with related music styles such as Jazz & Blues.

Prewien makes optimal use of the different musical traditions that travelled from far to Rotterdam over water and have found a place here. Rapidly evolving these styles and reaching out to each other creating exciting new forms.

Come and experience the richness of the Indian music styles in Rotterdam and its relevance for the themes and challenges that keep us busy in today’s modern world.

The faces we love. The sights and smells we take in. And the  songs we hear. All become our “Home”. To faraway lands, we bring our loved ones. The sights and smells become a cherished memory.

But the sounds and songs?

They travel with us no matter where we go.

The Homecoming brings to you the Songs of India - From the  Ghats of Varanasi, to the devotion of Meera; From the grandeur of Khayal to the romance of Thumris.

With these songs, DesiYUP brings you back to the Home of our ancestors led by one of the leading Hindustani Vocalist, Nirali Kartik. No matter where our home is in the world; we will always have our home in these sounds and songs.
