Music performance about the complex relationship between religion and queerness. What does it feel like to let loose when God is looking over your shoulder? Club Church, named after the famous queer nightclub in Amsterdam, is a music performance inspired by a place of contradictions: the divine and the blasphemous. For many members of the queer community, the club serves as a refuge for self-discovery, self-expression and acceptance. However, with this revelation of freedom also comes a sense of imposed shame. Club Church aims to embody the complex and conflicting feelings that arise on the path to becoming our most authentic selves. Trombonists Sebastiaan Kemner and Andrew Macleod explore the complex relationship between religion and queerness together with electronic performer Zeynep Oktar. In the setting of a nightclub and with music from a thousand years ago, all boundaries of genre and style are ignored.
