Wagner was the grand master of the superlative. He forged together epic stories, storming music, and overwhelming staging’s into a total experience in which your eyes and ears fell short. Had he lived a century later, he would have found his Valhalla in Hollywood, as a colleague of Herrmann and Korngold. This concert rings them together, with outsider Kodály as a surprising fourth.
Hermann Vertigo: suite | Korngold violin concerto | Wagner Tannhäuser: Ouverture and Venusberg-muziek | Kodály Dancing from Galanta
