With first prizes at the Bordeaux and Wigmore Hall string quartet competitions in 2025 and the prestigious Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award in 2026, the young Opus 13 Quartet has quickly established itself on the international stage. In this concert, they explore three distinct moments in the history of the string quartet.
Haydn’s String Quartet Op. 77 demonstrates why he is regarded as one of the founding fathers of the genre: clear in form, playful in character and full of subtle surprises. With Thomas Adès’ Arcadiana, the perspective shifts to a contemporary sound world shaped by memory, imagination and contrast. Finally, Brahms’ First String Quartet brings a deeply felt Romantic voice, rich in melody and inner tension. Three voices, one tradition.
