Burners

Nizar El Manouzi and the New Producers Academy (NPA) are proud to present the short film: 'Burners'. Based on the true story of Younes, once African triathlon champion. 'Burners' offers a poignant look at illegal migration and the struggles of young people who dream of a better future outside their homeland.

The film follows a day in the life of Mustafa, a former running champion, who makes his way to Europe in hopes of a better life. Along the way, he meets the ambitious young Reda who, like himself, is determined to achieve his dream. Together they face the harsh reality of illegal migration and the obstacles they must overcome to achieve their goals.

'Burners' is not only a story of struggle and perseverance, but also a call for attention to the challenges these young people face. In particular, the film focuses on the experiences of "burners" from Morocco, who seek a safer and more prosperous future in Europe. For fear of being sent back to their country of origin, they burn their passports. 

Burners Impact Program 
In addition to the film Burners, Nizar El Manouzi is also launching the Burners Impact program starting in June. Inspired by the story of his cousin, this program is designed for young people in the Netherlands who have dreams bigger than the place where they were born. Through storytelling, mentoring, workshops and support, the program aims to help these young people discover and realize their potential, just as Nizar El Manouzi is pursuing his dreams.  

Nizar El Manouzi says, "With 'Burners,' I don't just want to tell a story, I want to start a conversation and inspire young people to pursue their dreams, regardless of the obstacles they face. The Burners Impact Program is my way of making a lasting impact and supporting young people to achieve their goals."


On Friday, March 29, there will be a first viewing at De Doelen in Rotterdam, after which 'Burners' will be screened at various film festivals. A discussion with cast members will follow afterwards.
