J.A. Deelder

The Wunderkammer of J.A. Deelder, which has been in the foyer of de Doelen since December 15, 2023, will remain open longer due to popular demand.

During the International Film Festival, the Wunderkammer proved to be a pleasant surprise for many. In the heart of the festival at the Doelen, old and new Deelder fans took their time to experience the installation designed by AMC Fok. Poems were read aloud, anecdotes were shared, and deep conversations were had. The guest book of the Wunderkammer kept filling up with odes and memories of the dearly missed Rotterdammer.

Initiator Mieke van der Linden stated: "To be honest, we are still not done with this project and want as many visitors as possible to have the chance to get acquainted with the beautiful 'rain shower of books' that AMC Fok has created from his work. We are therefore delighted that Deelder's Wunderkammer will be extended, and from now on, it will be free to visit on Friday afternoons between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM. 

Literary Works

How many books does Jules Deelder have to his name? When was his first book published? And in which year did his last book come out? And what did the versatile writer write about? The Wunderkammer at the Doelen answers these questions in a wonderful way with the design by A.M.C Fok and Ari Deelder.

In a mega-sized diorama designed by production designer Ben Zuydwijk, near the dance floor, visitors can immerse themselves in the writer's enormous body of work, accompanied by the soundtrack of Deelder's favorite jazz tunes. J.A. Deelder's Wunderkammer is a tribute to his literary work and his love for jazz.

Admission is free; visitors can check in at the box office starting from 2:00 PM
