Together with art critic/historian Sandra Smets, Siebe Thissen, led by Mieke van der Linden, discusses the 3 great British artists and their works in De Doelen. Barbara Hepworth ('Curved Form'), Jacob Epstein (Head of composer Bernhard van Dieren) and Bernard Meadows ('Brutus') are featured. Perhaps the most beautiful detail of van Dieren's head is that it served as a model for a much larger work by Epstein, 'The Risen Christ'. On display in the Scottish National Gallery in Edinburgh.
Sandra Smets is an expert in the field of reconstruction art and recently published her book The Firebird Generation, about the flourishing Rotterdam art scene during the Second World War.
