The National Youth Orchestra of the Netherlands  (NYO), conducted by Christoph Altstaedt, presents a programme full of intensity and contrast. Violinist Liza Ferschtman is the soloist in Shostakovich’s First Violin Concerto, a work in which lyricism and tension lie closely side by side. Britten opens the programme with Russian Funeral, a short but powerful tribute, followed by Prokofiev’s Fifth Symphony, which showcases the orchestra at full strength. Music that demands concentration, energy and commitment, performed by a new generation of musicians.
