A fire broke out in the garment workshop and the seamstresses had nowhere to go; 146 young women, most of them immigrants, perished in the inferno. What was a news item in the New York newspapers in 1911 was transformed by Julia Wolfe in 2018 into a multimedia oratorio featuring a huge youth choir. A piece that strikes right at the heart: chilling, moving and terribly topical.
