The programme opens with A Life in a Day by Edward Top. The work focuses on four moments of the day: morning, afternoon, evening and night, which serve as a metaphor for the different stages of human life. The music reflects on time, change and the constant movement of life. Together with Visions at Sea by Joey Roukens, the programme highlights music by composers associated with the Rotterdam School.

The concert concludes with Max Richter’s The Four Seasons Recomposed. In this neoclassical reworking of Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, Richter brings the colours and contrasts of the original into sharper focus and magnifies them. At times, Vivaldi is clearly in the foreground; at others, Richter’s own musical voice comes through more strongly. The result is a layered and often moving work in which the dialogue between old and new comes to life with remarkable naturalness.
