Jeroen Smits
strengthens classical
programming at de Doelen
On February 1, De Doelen welcomes Jeroen Smits as programmer/head of classical music. His arrival will further deepen and strengthen De Doelen's classical programming.
In recent years, Jeroen Smits was Head of Classical Music at Muziekgebouw Eindhoven. There, he built a leading classical program that grew into a national reference. Under his leadership, audience reach increased substantially and he managed to forge strong links between top international musicians, talent development, and social relevance.
General Director Edo Righini: "Jeroen Smits has a strong and proven track record in developing high-quality and impactful classical programming. Thanks to his extensive national and international network and his clear vision, Smits brings a valuable combination of artistic acumen and audience-oriented thinking to Rotterdam. I look forward to working with Jeroen and our colleagues to further deepen and strengthen De Doelen's classical programming."
De Doelen would like to thank Masa Spaan, who has been deeply committed to our organization in recent years and has left a clear mark on classical programming with her artistic vision. We wish her every success in her new role with the Brussels Philharmonic and the Flemish Radio Choir.
With Jeroen Smits, de Doelen has brought in a programmer whose experience, vision, and network will contribute to de Doelen's ambition to be a leading international stage for classical music, firmly anchored in the city and relevant to a broad and diverse audience.
