The West Coast Big Band

On Sunday morning, November 8, 2026, the Grote Zaal (main hall) of De Doelen will become a true jazz club!

The West Coast Big Band and jazz singer Deborah J. Carter will take you on a wonderful musical journey through time, exploring big band music. From old-school big band to Glenn Miller, from Tommy Dorsey to Ella Fitzgerald, and even to soul. It will be a wonderfully diverse journey, recognizable and accessible.

The West Coast Big Band is a close-knit group of passionate jazz musicians who master a wide range of musical styles, but feel especially at home in true big band jazz. The band has won several awards, including the International Big Band Competition multiple times. But their success extends beyond prizes. They have played major Dutch jazz venues and toured with top international soloists and vocalists. The band has also recorded several CDs.

Deborah J. Carter is known for her warm stage presence and virtuoso style. She was born in the USA and grew up in Hawaii and Japan. Her versatility makes her at home in both mainstream jazz and contemporary crossover projects with diverse influences.
