The Anti Yogi

After two successful editions of Hindoes in de Media, cultural platform DesiYUP returns with a bold, urgent and artistically charged new edition: The Anti “Yogi”: Liberation Not Lululemon. Commissioned by the Dutch National Coordinator against Racism and Discrimination, this new programme takes place at de Doelen on Thursday 21 May, the International Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development.

Once again, DesiYUP brings together journalists and members of the Dutch Hindu community for an evening of performance, reflection and thought provoking conversation.

Through humour, satire and a sharp critical lens, The Anti “Yogi” challenges Western perceptions of yoga, spirituality and wellness culture. What happens when ancient Hindu traditions are reduced to lifestyle trends? How did words like guru, karma and namaste become detached from their spiritual and cultural roots? And what impact does this have on Hindus, for whom these concepts carry deep religious, historical and personal meaning?

Expect an evening that provokes, unsettles and sparks dialogue. A dynamic encounter between art, media and social reflection in the heart of Rotterdam.
