During Rotterdamse Popweek, Popunie and de Doelen bring together three bands for Popunie Unplugged #1: No Screaming At Pigeons, thrilled and Fellatio. In the Eduard Flipse Zaal, post-rock, post-punk, shoegaze and post-hardcore take on an intimate, semi-acoustic form. With a nod to the unplugged sessions of the nineties, the bands trade their usual wall of sound for a stripped-back set. The same intensity, pared back to its essence.
No Screaming At Pigeons makes sensual punk, with screaming vocals and tribal drums among its ingredients. The band has previously appeared at Roodkapje and WORM on nights centred on the Rotterdam punk scene. At Popunie Unplugged, that raw sound finds a different setting: a semi-acoustic set in an intimate hall.
Rotterdam band thrilled combines shoegaze with influences from grunge and post-hardcore. Beneath the layers of fuzz and powerful drums lie unexpected chord changes and contrasts between soft and loud. The band has played at Left of the Dial and opened for acts including Ride and They Are Gutting a Body of Water. The EP no one for miles was released in 2026.
Fellatio moves between disco, punk and krautrock. The Rotterdam trio pairs driving rhythms with a free-spirited, exuberant stage presence. The music has both an experimental and a danceable side. Following performances at festivals including Left of the Dial and Motel Mozaïque, the band will use this evening to explore its distinctive sound in a stripped-back form.
