Nikola Meeuwsen plays Rachmaninoff

Rotterdams Philharmonisch Orkest

The first Dutch winner of the Queen Elisabeth Competition returns to his first love.

Nikola Meeuwsen was six years old when he heard Rachmaninoff played by Vladimir Horowitz. At that moment, he knew: I’m going to be a pianist. In 2025, seventeen years later, he was the resounding winner of the Queen Elisabeth Competition, the first Dutchman ever to do so. From São Paulo to Shanghai, concert halls are now queuing up for him; in December 2026, he will make his debut with our orchestra. With Rachmaninoff, his first love.
