Rumi&Shams
The ensemble Rumi&Shams, formed by the Iranian Mostafa Taleb (kamancheh) and Milad Mohammadi (tar), offers a musical homage to the extraordinary encounter between the great poet and mystic Rumi (also known as Mowlana) and his master Shams Tabrizi.
When Shams threw Rumi's books into the river and pulled them back out completely dry, he said: “Look for the knowledge that no water can erase – the knowledge of your heart.” This episode marked the beginning of a new life for Rumi. Leaving behind his status as a respected man of faith, he turned to mysticism, poetry, dance, and music, becoming one of the most important Persian poets in history.
Having left their homeland at different times, Mostafa Taleb and Milad Mohammadi now reunite in Europe to bring forth the soul of Persian culture – a fantastic mix of poetry, spirituality, and philosophy. Combining their classical musical knowledge with deep improvisation and composition skills, they push the kamancheh and tar to their absolute limits. In their hands, these string instruments become voices, percussions, and electronic mediums, always preserving the authenticity of their message.
