Augustin Dumay is regarded as one of the greatest violinists of his generation. He studied at the Conservatoire de Paris, where he won the Premier Prix at the age of thirteen. His international breakthrough came after a chance encounter with Herbert von Karajan, who immediately invited him to perform with the Berlin Philharmonic. Since then, he has worked with the world’s leading orchestras and built an impressive discography with labels including Deutsche Grammophon and EMI, earning numerous international awards.
With his warm tone and refined phrasing, Dumay joins pianist Stéphane De May for a recital centred on Schumann and Brahms. Schumann’s Fantasiestücke reveal an intimate and poetic character, while Brahms’ Second Violin Sonata offers space for lyricism and equal partnership between violin and piano. Two Romantic voices, performed with depth and musical conviction.
