The Academy of St Martin in the Fields joins forces with piano duo Lucas and Arthur Jussen to perform two of Beethoven’s most distinctive piano concertos. The Second Piano Concerto reveals a young Beethoven, playful and energetic, with a clear nod to the Classical tradition. In the Fifth Piano Concerto, the “Emperor”, we hear a composer pushing the boundaries of the genre with grandeur, freedom and power. Together, these works bring youthful flair and monumental expression side by side.
