The classic 2024/2025 season in de Doelen
From the biggest international stars and orchestras to experimental local talent and everything in between: the classical 2024/2025 program promises an exceptionally broad and versatile season that can only be achieved in De Doelen.
De Doelen in motion
We present the new classic season while de Doelen is in full swing. From a renovation of our Jurriaanse Zaal to the opening of new studios in de Plint for lunch, dinner, conversation, art and music. In recent years we have also built a new identity for our classic program, with new series and a new program signature. The world's best have a major place in this, but we are also emphatically preparing for the future with a lot of talent, idiosyncratic mid-career musicians and innovative makers across the board. A unique combination for a hall of our size.
a lot of new and young audiences
We are proud to see that this new direction attracts many new and young audiences. In the classical 2023/2024 season, no less than a third of our classical audience is new. Moreover, our classical audience is younger than ever, partly thanks to our €10 youth-tickets. With these tickets, anyone up to the age of 30 can easily visit any classical concert. Of the new visitors, more than a third are under the age of 35; on average, a quarter of the audience at our classical concerts is under 35.
highlights 2024/2025
The 2024/2025 season promises many highlights. Several international orchestras play (exclusively) in de Doelen. The Budapest Festival Orchestra & Iván Fischer present a Brahms program; the London Philharmonic Orchestra & Christian Tetzlaff play Sibelius' Violin Concerto; the Munich Chamber Orchestra & Nicolas Altstaedt ingeniously weave Shostakovich, Haydn and Schubert together and Janine Jansen & the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen play, among others, Beethoven's Violin Concerto and Schubert's Die Unvollendete.
For many programs, you must come to de Doelen. Exclusively at de Doelen, 12 Ensemble will perform with live visuals featuring leading art director Ben Ditto; Sol Gabetta & Bertrand Chamayou will present a recital centered around Mendelssohn; up-and-coming saxophonist Jess Gillam will perform with her trio; Roomful of Teeth will showcase a kaleidoscopic program by six leading composers; pioneering drag bass artist Le Gateau Chocolat will make his debut in the Netherlands with the Ruisi Quartet; legendary violinist Midori will grace the stage; there will be a unique collaboration transcending centuries between soprano Elisabeth Hetherington, B'Rock & HIIIT; Gli Angeli Genève will perform the Messiah, and much more.
In addition, there will be a focus on rediscovered composers such as Joseph Bologne, featuring up-and-coming violinists Randall Goosby and Théotime Langlois de Swarte. There will also be creative programs truly Rotterdam; representative of Rotterdam, developed in collaboration with ensembles from the city. Additionally, the classical progam will also explore the combination of music and technology, as well as present an activist and committed program with a political edge. Orchestras in the mix - will also be involved in special crossover collaborations.
expected: From Dust by Michel van der Aa
A special highlight is the expected World Premiere of the new VR opera by Michel van der Aa. From Dust is created in co-production with de Doelen and will be available for at least a week during the Immersive Tech Week. The start of ticket sales for this production will be communicated separately and more information will follow at a later time.
