You couldn’t imagine a more passionate opening to the Sinfonia Classics Series. The bliss of the star-crossed Romeo and Juliet is shattered by an age-old, bloody family feud, leading to a dramatic finale set to Sergei Prokofiev’s most beautiful ballet music. In Liebestod, Jeanette van Schaik sings of ultimate love—this time Isolde’s love for Tristan—during the climactic conclusion of Wagner’s famous opera. At the heart of the program, Harriet Krijgh celebrates lyricism and love on her 18th-century Montagnana cello from Venice in Saint-Saëns’ First Cello Concerto.
