In the week of the important U.S. midterm elections, Geert Mak takes us back a century, to a time when American democracy was under severe pressure. Roosevelt guided the United States through a decisive period with his New Deal. Pianist Ramon van Engelenhoven performs works by Gershwin, Copland, Stravinsky and Korngold, composers whose music reflected the social and political developments of their time. A captivating evening in which storytelling and music blend seamlessly.
