André Kuipers & Kamerata-Zuid A musical space journey

When astronaut André Kuipers starts telling a story, you can usually hear a pin drop. Not during this special concert with Kamerata Zuid, because then you will hear ‘The Planets’ by composer Gustav Holst. ‘A musical space journey’ is an encounter between music, science, and wonder.

Kerkata Zuid will perform seven musical portraits with ten wind instruments and twelve strings: from the combative Mars to the mystical Neptune. In this intimate setting, the string orchestra brings the cosmos to life in sound, color, and feeling.

The orchestra performs the world-famous ‘The Planets’ in an intimate arrangement, in which new layers of detail and emotion come to light. As both an astronaut and a storyteller, André shares fascinating insights about our solar system. His view of the planets casts a unique light on Holst’s musical imagination.

Over the past few years, Kamerata Zuid has presented a surprising classical sound with a variety of artists. From Eloi Youssef and Ellen ten Damme
to Karin Bloemen and Maarten Heijmans. The string orchestra is ten years old and
celebrates this with this musical theatre lecture with André Kuipers.
