Together with conductor and soloist Benjy Wenzelberg, soprano Elisabeth Hetherington and director Peter Leung, the Orchestra of the 18th Century delves into the story of Marianna Martines. Raised in an environment with Metastasio and Haydn, she was praised for her singing and keyboard playing and grew into a fiery composer of vocal and instrumental music.
Why did her name disappear, while her music was once celebrated? Evanesce investigates how female composers have been forgotten by time and gives their music a new stage in a multidisciplinary performance in which music, movement and story merge.
This project was (partly) made possible with financial support from Fonds 21.
