Comedian and writer Vincent Bijlo is the great-grandson of H.P. Berlage. Bijlo has inherited Berlage’s belief that art should reflect the world we live in, as has the Berlage Saxophone Quartet. Together, they join forces for a new production reflecting on the ideals of then and now.

What is the state of “menschheid” today? In 1915, in the midst of World War I, Berlage envisioned a magnificent Pantheon to unite humanity. Unfortunately, it was never built. What if we were to build this Pantheon now? Would it foster brotherhood? Or, if it had existed decades ago, could it have prevented today’s wars?

With music by Bach, Debussy and Roukens, spoken word by Vincent Bijlo and visuals by Jurjen Alkema, the Pantheon will rise on stage, inviting reflection on the role of art in society.
