Battle Event 1 marks the beginning of the new season of the International Dance League (IDL). This innovative platform brings together the hip-hop and street dance communities, with improvisation, creativity, and exchange at its core. At this first event, dancers will compete in two categories: 1VS1 Hiphop Freestyle and 1VS1 Open Styles (in the IDL format, where dancers respond to unexpected music).
The day brings together a diverse mix of dancers – from emerging talent to established names, both from the Netherlands and abroad. Each category offers a €500 prize. Visitors will experience the energy of the underground dance scene up close, where styles like hip-hop, house, afro, popping, voguing, electro, and more blend in surprising ways.
Battle Event 1 is the first part of a three-part IDL series in 2025. On September 20, a larger edition will follow at De Doelen, featuring more participants and new competition formats. From October 23 to 26, the International Dance League Festival returns to Theater Rotterdam, with battles, workshops, talks, and performances. Together, these events form a powerful platform for dance as a global language, driven by community, expression, and connection.
About International Dance League
International Dance League presents top urban dance talent to a wide audience and operates year-round as a driving force for talent development, production, presentation, education, and innovation. We merge battle and theatre into a globally innovative concept that connects dancers through a festival setting, promotes artistic development through co-creation, and presents these dance forms in an appealing way to both existing and new audiences.
This positions International Dance League as the leading hip-hop dance festival in Rotterdam, with national relevance and international appeal.
Through hip-hop and street dance, we aim to foster self-expression, self-confidence, and a sense of belonging among visitors, while bringing cultures together in a community. We strive to make these cultures accessible to a broad audience and are committed to building a professional ecosystem within this dance world.
