Rotterdam has a new talk show: Eerlijk over… On Friday 6 June, OPEN Rotterdam will present a talk show about a subject that has become an indispensable part of the lives of many Rotterdammers: gaming. From relaxation to top-level sports, from the creative industry to education – gaming is everywhere. And that is precisely why it is time for an honest conversation. Eerlijk Over Gaming will be recorded in Studio 1 of de Doelen and can be attended live. 

What does gaming really mean?
During the talk show Eerlijk over Gaming, presenter Zoë Pinto e Neto will talk to gamers, developers, scientists and policymakers about the impact of gaming on our lives and our city.

We discuss opportunities, concerns and solutions. Because gaming is often linked to addiction or aggression, but what does science say about that? And how can we use gaming as a force for education, mental health and social connection?

A look at the Rotterdam gaming world
Rotterdam is increasingly positioning itself as a gaming city. Project Manager Digital Economy Martijn Peltenburg (Municipality of Rotterdam) shares insights about the economic opportunities of the gaming industry. We also get to know indie game studio Sparrow Night, makers of the game News Tower.

Personal stories 
What does gaming mean in daily life? We hear from people for whom gaming is more than just a leisure activity. Such as Sergio Meyer, former KNVB gamer, founder of GeeGee Games and father of two young children. He shares his experience as a former top athlete and parent. 

Why this conversation is important
Gaming is increasingly affecting more domains: from work and well-being to education and technology. We talk about responsible gaming with Ruud Jacobs, researcher at the University of Twente and with Nolan Noordzij from House of Esports. By bringing together citizens, experts and policymakers, we want to conduct the conversation from a human perspective. Without prejudice, with an eye for nuance and the future.
