City organist Geert Bierling says goodbye in the Doelen
After 25 years, Geert Bierling retires as city organist of Rotterdam. He will be succeeded by 32-year-old Adriaan Hoek from Krimpen aan den IJssel. Hoek has also been cantor-organist of the Marekerk in Leiden since the beginning of this year.
Before his well-deserved retirement, Bierling will give a final concert on the Doelen organ on Sunday afternoon, September 25. Naturally, he pulls out all the stops. For example, in this special program he plays together with four horn players from the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and enters an organ duel with his successor. He also combines baroque music by Georg Friedrich Händel with tango by Astor Piazzolla, with tango duo Carlos & Mirella taking care of the dance.
