Maher's Kitchen

Syrian chef Maher Al Sabbagh with his famous buffet

The Syrian chef Maher Al Sabbagh presents his delicious buffet at the Doelen Studio.

Maher is no stranger to the cultural and culinary scene of Rotterdam. He once presided over the renowned café-restaurant De Unie on Mauritsweg, where he delighted visitors with his global cuisine. Other food enthusiasts may remember him from Restaurant LUX on 's-Gravendijkwal, where he introduced Sicilian cuisine in its early years. The chef and filmmaker, originally from Damascus, arrived in Rotterdam in 1992 via Sicily and Milan and has always maintained a connection with the city along the Maas River. After his time at De Unie, he took charge of the kitchen at the Marres art center in Maastricht. These days, he primarily works as a caterer in Rotterdam and the surrounding area.

He continually surprises diners with age-old Palestinian dishes, Sicilian antipasti, Syrian soups, and even traditional Dutch desserts like 'hang-op'. You can choose from both vegetarian and vegan options. The meat at Maher's Kitchen is always halal.
