A single glance at the photo of these five young musicians and you know it: brass is cool. And don’t think style trumps substance, Connaught Brass are all virtuosos.

Trumpetist Aaron Akugbo from the Chineke! Orchestra has reinvigorated an increasingly rare ensemble composition: the brass quintet. Ewald’s Brass Quintet No. 4 is a brass-program classic, but pieces like the adaptation of Florence Price’s Adoration give tonight’s program a contemporary twist.

Aaron Akugbo, Harry Plant, Annemarie Federle, Chris Brewster, and Aled Meredith-Barrett are young musicians working hard on their promising international careers. But they still have time for other past-times, for example tuba player Aled Meredith-Barrett, who enjoys spending time working the bar at Chiswick’s The George IV.
