Mozart’s Twentieth piano concerto might be his most exciting. You could describe it as an amalgam of Beethoven’s virtuoso style mixed with Don Giovanni’s rich, dark tension.

This makes the rest of the program a perfect match, and Don Giovanni’s overture is a wonderful introduction to the piano concerto. Mozart’s piano concerto in turn is like an introduction to Beethoven’s Eighth – an almost literal explosion of joy, with a touch of Mozart’s frivolity.

Academy of St. Martin in the Fields is one of the most famous chamber orchestras in the world, renowned for their performances of pieces by late 18th century composers like Beethoven and Mozart. Young world star Beatrice Rana (only 30 years old) solo in the piano concerto.
