Faurés Requiem and Rossini's Petite messe solennelle lie pretty much at the heart of the choir repertoire. From that core, the Rotterdam Laurens Collegium makes unexpected jaunts to the genre’s outer limits.

The harmonium is an accompanying instrument that has faded to the background, but it is exactly this somewhat odd instrument that connects the pieces in this program. The link to Janaçek’s Otçe Náš was obvious, but it’s pieces by Lili Boulanger as well as a new young Rotterdam composer that bring balance to the program.

Rotterdam is home to many choirs, but the Laurens Collegium has reached the professional summit. The choir makes an appearance at de Doelen every season, performing not only typical choir programs, but also unique productions made by de Doelen.

This concert is part of the series: straight from Rotterdam.
