The Nederlands Blazers Ensemble (NBE) and the puppeteers of the Duda Paiva Company present a completely new performance of St. Matthew’s Passion. In this abridged, interdisciplinary rendition of Bach’s masterpiece, music, dance and puppetry are forged together into an adventurous theatrical show. The singing roles are performed by an excellent cast, starring star soprano Claron McFadden and baritone Rick Zwart. They are accompanied by among others the Turkish ney player Sinan Arat and the Syrian duduk player Ghaeth Almaghoot, two virtuosos on Asian woodwind instruments.
This adaptation fits NBE’s tradition of contemporary renditions of classical works. For reworking the ‘holy of holiest’, St. Matthew’s Passion, NBE joins forces with puppet master Duda Paiva, with whom they previously created the hit show The Fairy Queen.
