The Chineke! Orchestra is doing things totally different. With their inspiring motto they conquer the world in full speed: championing change and celebrating diversity in classical music. Together with rising star Jeneba Kanneh-Mason they approach Dvořák’s Symphony no. 9 in an unconventional, but way more interesting and authentic way.
It is evident that Dvořák was inspired by his impressions of the United States. He subtitled his symphony ‘From the New World’. It is lesser known, however, that he was profoundly touched by the American negro spirituals. Chineke! Orchestra starts off with music from black composers and shows how this music inspired Dvořák. This approach sheds a new but actually very authentic light on the famous symphony.
