Red Sofa Young
Wed 15 Dec ’2119:00Jurriaanse Zaal
In Red Sofa Young, a new generation of classical musicians and composers presents itself biannually.
Kicking us off is the Sabr Ensemble, led by Iranian composer Farid Sheek. He is joined on stage by Russian cellist Maya Friedman, Dutch harpist Doriene Marselje and Iranian opera singer Mohsen Masoumi. Influences from ancient Persian music and the contemporary classical western tradition are woven together into an eclectic, melancholy, yet hopeful sound.
‘Sabr’ is Persian for ‘patience’, and the phrase ‘Sabr, sabr!’ is used to calm and reassure. In the very same manner, Farid Sheek, the ensemble’s composer, tries to bring the audience hope and togetherness. In Farid’s latest work, the ensemble combines live electronics with visuals, with the help of Soheil Shayesteh.
This concert is part of the Red Sofa. It is available with the Red Sofa pass and also for sale as a separate concert.
"Music allows you to tell a story that is greater than words can capture".
