Femenine is as fresh as it was the day it came out! This piece is Julius Eastman’s tribute to woman: her beauty, her power, and the beginning of all life on earth. Relying on the musicians’ improvisation skills, every performance will be different. Femenine engulfs the listener in waves of tonal colors, consisting of woodwind instruments, piano, violin, percussion, synthesizer and the mechanized sleigh bells (the composer’s invention) that give the 72-minute work its characteristic pulse.
Laura Trompetter will be performing with the Young DoelenEnsemble, using the instruments built for her specially. The Amenti collective was given total freedom to choreograph a dance to this music.
