.Following the success of A Tribute to Eva Cassidy, Margriet Sjoerdsma returns with Northern Lights. Her three-month solo stay in Norway resulted in a wealth of new music, dealing with themes that are both personal and universal: family, one’s roots, compassion, forgiveness and letting go. Forgiving others, as well as yourself. The songs came into being in an overwhelming Scandinavian landscape, where days are deafeningly quiet, and nature still rules. Margriet mocks, investigates, and challenges. The work is playful and serious at once. Expect to hear some adventurous arrangements, full of unusual harmonic twists and melancholy melodies with sudden turns.
For Northern Lights, she will be performing alongside the Odelion Orchestra, an adventurous orchestral formation consisting of some heavyweights from the jazz scene, like pianist Jeroen van Vliet, amongst others.
